My favorite sci fi films in no particular order:
Alien : saw it as a little girl on tv, there was stuff in our apartment that looked liked it could be the alien hiding in plain site, lol
Aliens: can't decide whether this or 28 Days Later is my favorite. Smart, sensitive, great action, and shows no matter how advanced we become, we still succumb to our frailties: greed, cowardice, etc. One of the rare sequels that is better than the first movie.
28 Days Later: saw it on dvd and was hooked on Cillian ever since. Loved the rest of the cast and loved Danny Boyle.
Terminator: LOVED IT! I had seen it about 5 years ago with my younger cousins and they liked it, but complained about the "cheesy" FX. I went on a rant on how innovative this movie was and I think it still holds up. Listen to the techno remix of the theme song, I dare you to stop yourself from walking like the Terminator, go on, I dare you!
T2: Even better than the 1st movie. Great strong female character next to Ripley. Robert Patrick was perfect.
Logan's Run: saw it on tv as a little girl and always catch it when it's on tv. I love the premise, the british actors. I think it has held up quite well.
Blade Runner: Have always been a huge Harrison Ford fan and I love this movie because he's so sensitive to the Sean Young character.
Matrix: saw it at a 10pm show at a theatre. I and the rest of the audience was held captive. When Agent Smith shoots Neo, we all gasped together and started muttering "...this can't end like this!?!"
Matrix Reloaded: Stood in line to see it. Waited past the end credits to see the preview of the 3rd movie (I had read about that on some forum.) Visited the website daily for any info.
Matrix Revolutions: Ditto
Equilibrium: Had read about it on a Christian Bale fan site and was surprised it went straight to video. Loved the acting (yeah, yeah, they're not supposed to show emotions but who wants to watch wooden actors for 2 hours), the fight sequences, the costumes, the props, etc.
(what the heck, since I'm over 10 anyway, here are the rest for top 20)
Strange Days: Huge Angela Bassett fan and this made me a huge Ralph Fiennes fan too. Tough scenes of people getting violated/murdered but the acting and story got to me. Another strong female character...Angela kicks butt and saves Ralph numerous times. Didn't enjoy Juliette Lewis' singing, but the rest of the soundtrack is killer.
Shawn of the Dead: Freaking hilarious!!! Spoofs 28 Days Later, the Living Dead movies, etc. British cast is excellent. The 2 leads made a spoof on buddy cop movies but I don't remember the name of it or when it's coming out. I will run to see it on the big screen. Why do lines sound funnier coming from british actors?
The Fly (liked both, but prefer the remake w/Jeff Goldblum): I saw the remake while removing nail polish. To this day, the smell of acetone makes me sick. This is a very gross movie but it's a great love story too. It made Jeff Goldblum sexy... from Ichabod Crane to sexy human/fly mutant, who knew?
Hardware: This is hard to find but it stars Dylan Mcdermott and lord is he hot! I would love this movie even if he wasn't hot, lol. I'm a sucker for man/woman against machines. And there's a pervert in this movie who makes me cringe everytime I see it.
The Thing: the remake. I've seen the original but it didn't scare me. I saw the remake as a little girl on tv and had nightmares for weeks, had to leave the door open when I went to the bathroom, bribed my sisters to close the light of our bedroom because I was too scared to do so and run back into bed. Awesome FX and make up.
Signs: M. Night Shaymalan rules. So does the cast and the FX. Saw it in the theatre with my friend who kept pinching my arm and hiding her face on my shoulder everytime she got scared ( I was so happy I reapplied deoderant before meeting her after work, lol). Three scenes: when Mel Gibson finds something locked in someone else's pantry; when Joaquin Phoenix watches the news broadcast of a South American video that shows proof; the basement scene, dear lord, even though we knew it was coming, because any time an actor is by a window or is in a parked car, we know something is gonna get them.
Dark City: You must see this. It was co-written by David Goyle, who wrote Batman Begins and Blade. Creepy and smart.
Face/Off: Hush, it does too count as sci-fi! Love John Woo, with his gun duels and flying doves. Nicolas Cage and John Travolta were fantastic. The movie trailer is the best I've ever seen. And life did imitate art: earlier this year, a french woman underwent a partical face transplant after she was mauled by a dog. Check out the link:
