I've never seen Alien but I heard it was very good. I know there's a cat in it that's carrying an alien thing or something? I dunno but I might have to rent that!

Definitely rent it. Along with '2001' it's one of the seminal films which changed the face of science fiction. And it's scary as hell. Also, Sigourney Weaver plays what I think is one of the best female characters in any film ever. She portrays Ripley as both tough and emotional...

Hmm...Top 10 lists are always difficult. Let's see...
Star Wars (all six, though of varying enjoyment, make an epic) Alien Aliens Spaceballs GalaxyQuest Last Starfighter Highlander (the first one) Contact Star Trek II - Wrath of Khan Stargate
Yes, I know, the entirety of Star Wars - how can I say that? Episode I was a wash, Episode II wasn't that great. But the entire story is good even if there were some slow sections.
As for top stuff, GalaxyQuest and Spaceballs are great, Last Starfighter and Contact were very well done.

Ooooh, I loved Contact. Every time it's on television I still watch it. I remember not even knowing who Matthew McConaughey was back when I first saw it. That's been ages ago!

I forgot Matthew was in Contact. Jodie Foster clearly stole the screen. I like her a lot in it.

Oh, yeah, Jodie Foster was definitely the highlight. I just remember seeing it somewhat recently and being like, "!! That is MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY!"
