Did he kill himself or did Pinbacker get him?
In the script it says that Pinbacker killed him. Of course, that was merely a comment in the script and wasn't included in the direction or dialogue. I don't think Pinbacker would have taken the time to make it look like a suicide.... what do you think?

I think he killed himself.
In the scene where Mace gets a knife, there are two missing. That leaves one missing for Trey to have used himself and one for Pinbacker to have gotten.

Well, Cassie had a knife, didn't she? She used it to stab Pinbacker. Pinbacker didn't have any weapon. I think he was planning on choking Trey, but learned too late that he was already dead.

Didn't Cassie pick up the one that was in the Earth Room with Trey?

Yea, Cassie picked it up. It depends on whether or not Pinbacker wanted to *make* it look like a suicide - cos he could have easily taken two knives... I just ask cos I have no idea when the decision was made to make it look like Trey killed himself. They, of course, don't know that Pinbacker is on the ship at that point... I don't think Pinbacker killed him though... Poor Trey.

I don't think Pinbacker would've really cared whether or not it looked like a suicide. They don't know he's on the ship then, you're right, but it doesn't seem to me like he really cares much whether they know or not.
Agreed, though. Poor Trey. D=

I vote for suicide. Benny told us that he'll be in the sequel though. ;D Such happy times...

Heh, yeah he did. He joked with us and said that he'll be foam in the second movie. He's adorable.

I think it was a suicide. The final straw with him being when they lost Harvey and Searle. I think Pinbacker wasn't interested in making it look like anything. He just wanted to get rid of them all whatever way he could. Well, that's what I think anyway.

Well, Pinbacker did arrange Corazon when he killed her... but Trey must have snapped. Egoes come into the equation and the guilt is enormous if you really think about it.

The whole thing with Corazon being arranged really puzzled me at the time. I was like "Did Pinbacker do that?" Not that there would've been any other explanation other than maybe she wasn't quite dead but I doubted that because well, it went straight through her. I guess the first thought I had was right then.
I felt really sorry for Trey. I know he made a silly mistake, a human error that cost everyone greatly...but still, he wasn't the one to make the decision to go to Icarus I in the first place. I thought it was wrong of Kaneda to put that kind of decision onto Capa, but that's a whole other discussion I guess.

They shouldn't have doubted themselves in the first place... But I guess it goes back to that saying: "Better safe than sorry."

Trey never makes mistakes so when he made one that affected the safety of mankind, the pressure is overbearing. He seemed blinded to anyone else's mistakes and focused only on himself.
They are all the best of the best in their fields. There is no room for failure. Poor Trey, I think, ultimately blamed himself for messing up the whole mission, no matter what anyone else did. Imagine having the Captain yell at you and then die fixing the problem. It makes me cry just thinking about it...

The script said that Pinbacker killed Trey? I don't remember that bit at all, but maybe it wasn't in the draft I read....
If Pinbacker HAD killed Trey, he wouldn't have thought that Trey was Cassie when he was stalking her in the Earth Room - he would have known that he had arranged Trey in that position (although who knows what his memory/mental state was like...)
