I'm really excited for this movie, but I'm sure that with the luck Americans seem to be having the only time to see it will be May 1 for the Tribeca Film Festival (which is its US release date so far, as stated by IMDb.com). I don't know much (read: anything) about film festivals, American or otherwise, 'cept that I don't think they're so easy to get to even if you do live near one or have the money to go cross-country. >.> So what are everyone else's thoughts or bits of knowledge?

Have you checked the Tribeca website (tribecafilmfestival.org)? They've posted the full film schedule and ticket-ordering instructions. Thing is, as of Wednesday April 11, they were showing available pre-sale tickets only for the Thursday May 3 show of WTD; all the other screenings are currently DOOR SALES ONLY. Which actually doesn't bother me all that much, 'cause... ... heh... ... heh... I ORDERED OUR TICKETS FOR THE MAY 1 PREMIERE SCREENING LAST SATURDAY!!! BLAR!!! Single-ticket sales are AMEX-only by phone or 'net; with any luck they've ironed out the technical snags that got me cut off the first time I got through (after two and a half hours of REDIAL). New York City last week was having weather issues, or so I hear: typhoons or tidal waves or a blizzard or something. Anyway-- good luck! (And, gosh golly, did I ever just jinx our trip with that "BLAR!!!".... )

That's it. Let's PM each other. It's 8:00am at the moment and I can't really function but I'll the PMing you in the near future. JUST YOU WAIT.
...now I really need to find someone with an AMEX card. GAH! (Look at all the capslock going on... I'm seriously excited about this!)
P.S.- kagerou, if you get to go, I want to meet you, too, LOL. I just got really excited about meeting Kali 'cause we've *almost* met each other like eighty seven times.

YAY!!!!
One day when I grow up, I too will have an AMEX card. NYC is always getting attacked by weird weather conditions that could f**k up anything you try to do.
And no more "BLAR".

I can't wait to see this film. It sounds like a humorous premise and seeing Cillian do some comedy again will be great. Don't think he's done anything like that since Intermission. Probably be waiting a while before it's released though. Wish I could go to the festival. I'd love to meet you all as well as get some Cillian goodness. Gah, I hate being poor and living too far away.

Gah, I hate being poor and living too far away. My thoughts exactly, aroreiel. My thoughts exactly. No worries, Amanda, I understand. Well I sure as hell hope this makes it farther than a festival...I didn't know it was NYC so far away.

Hmm, would anyone perhaps have more info on this movie now? That is... if it's being released... Haha, you guys tend to give better info than Imdb often. I wish forums like this came around more often for good but under-appreciated movies. ^^;

I think Peace Arch licensed it first to a Russian airline as an in-flight movie (and doesn't that sound like something someone would make up?). So I have two semi-guesses bolstered by semi-rumors as to its domestic release: 1. they're gonna have a hell of a time cross-licensing it for the USA, and 2. it's probably marching straight off but very slowly to DVD. Which is a bee of epic proportions, 'cause it's the cutest movie on the whole dang planet....

IT'S OUT!!!
Blockbuster has it as a rental exclusive right now (which is kinda ironic, since it's about a little guy and his video shop facing [symbolic] destruction at the hands of engulf-and-devour video chains like Blockbuster [good ol' Bustblocker is even name-checked in an ad for a huge media store early in the movie]). It's due out for retail sale in August.
I love this movie. Some obvious updates aside (cussing, a bit of harmless nudity, some very, very softcore canoodling), this is a pitch-perfect homage to geek film culture and old-school screwball comedy. If you're looking for plot or Deep Meaning, don't bother. But if you want to see how comedy looked and sounded back when Howard Hawks, Ernst Lubitsch, and George Cukor were helming flicks for RKO, Paramount, and MGM, check it the heck out. Not a mean or sarcastic bone in its body, and that, in this perpetually snarky day and age (see the trailer for the nightmarish remake of "The Women" for an example of just how brutally old-style comedy can crack heads with modern times-- and shudder), is darn refreshing.
No bonuses on the disc, though. Arrgh!
But CHECK IT OUT. You go now-- to the Blocker of Bust! You GO!

Two words: BLOCKBUSTER ONLINE. Signed up for a trial membership, and 'cause it's an online rental, I can keep this sucker 'TIL THE COWS COME HOME. (... with much saying of HA!, etc. )
