You should save all of this as a future post on your blog. or use it to make a Sunshine scrapbook... ;D and make copies of it and put it for auction, I'd be the first to bid!

Thanks Gia, it was hard to understand and yes there were parts in the film, particularly the first time I saw it, that I was a bit lost as to where the crew were or what was happening, particularly in parts towards the end... it's one of those films that you pick up things each time you watch it. Though I'm still unsure why Cassie led Pinbacker into the payload? Hopefully it's something that gets explained on the commentary for the dvd.

I've posted this before but I'll post it here again. Teehee. But the debate going on here is the identity of Cassie's child right? As far as we know, she isn't intimately involved with anyone on earth. 4 months before leaving earth orbit... this means they're deep into the training by then... which also means that the people she's constantly with would have to be the other seven people of the crew. So speculations suggesting that whoever fathered her child would have to be either of the six guys is really plausible.
This would lead then to the question: Who amongst these six guys is the father of Cassie's aborted child? Searle is already canceled out, leaving five: Trey, Harvey, Kaneda, Capa and Mace. It's safe to say that Harvey is out since he is overly attached to his wife, which now leaves us with four: Trey, Kaneda, Capa and Mace. If you analyze the interactions of the characters in the movie... you can see that Capa & Mace are the most likely candidates.
So now the final question: Is it Mace? Or is it Capa? And so the shipper battle begins between Capsie and Massie fans.
Backing up the Massie ship is the fact that Mace dreams about Cassie. And that he seems to hate Capa's guts (perhaps seeing him as a rival for Cassie's affection). However, this only proves that Mace is attracted to Cassie... and NOT vice versa.
Contrary to what most fansites state, Capsie do have more romantic potential. For one, Cassie seems to always follow Capa around... even watching him while he sleeps. The one with the most interactions and private conversation in the movie were between Capa and Cassie. But we can also see that Capa is not into Cassie as Cassie is into Capa. This is understandable. Capa has a lot of things going on in his mind. But we know that there was definitely something extra going on between them when Danny Boyle initially planned for them to have a love scene in the Oxygen Room:From www.thisislondon.co.uk/film/article-23391332-details/A+star+is+reborn/article.do :
The hero is a sensitive, zealous physicist called Capa (played by Irish actor Cillian Murphy). Pretty technician Cassie (Rose Byrne) does her best to get his attention, but it's the sun he is dazzled by and she just can't compete with that greedy, gorgeous yellow orb. Sunshine is almost oppressively sensuous, yet sex doesn't figure in this film.
"We tried to put sex in, believe me!" says Boyle, an oddly attractive 50-year old (think Morrissey crossed with Paul Daniels) whose broad Northern vowels still proclaim his working-class roots.
"We had a great scene planned between Capa and Cassie. In the oxygen garden. It would have looked great!" He shakes himself from the reverie. "But no. Sex in space just doesn't work."If it would have happened in space, it could have happened on earth. Cassie may have hid all these from Capa seeing as Capa is the most vital person from the crew. The pregnancy could have emotionally affected him and his way of thinking. And Cassie knew that the mission and the hope of mankind rested on his shoulders. So she secretly terminated the pregnancy to avoid further complications.
So I may just be biased when I say Capa could be the father. But hey, it is a very possible speculation based on the points I've stated above.
**NOTE: Did you guys see Cassie tap Capa's nose while she was suiting him up? So cute!

Hey, I had forgotten about the reason why I was so sure Capsie was canon! Looks like Nimue brought up the hard facts.

I don't know what about an unborn child. I think that it was a man outside the crew. But I have an opinion on the relationships between Cassie, Mace and Capa. I think that Mace and Cassie could be a good couple, they have a passion - Mace is strong, uncompromising person, he can be a savior, a hero for Cassie. They are very different, but Mace would take all dessicions in this couple, and Cassie would be so happy with such kind of men. As for Capa - he is very close to Cassie, they speak one language, but he is a good friend, not lover. He' s rather infaliti, he couldn't be a leader in their couple. That\s why I think that on a romantic line Mace is more suitable then Capa

After seeing Sunshine multiple times, I get a brother/sister vibe from Capsie. Also, it bugs the heck out of me when Rose says that Capa and Cassie have a strong bond out of all the crew. She obviously didn't read everyone's backstories. It's Capa and Searle...Capa and Searle...Capa... *voice fades to an echo*

Hi polina! I'm massiefan, SFO's resident diehard Massie-shipping fangirl. Pleasure to meet you. I also prefer Mace over Capa where Cassie is concerned; Capsie, IMO, is a little TOO reminiscent of the kind of relationship between Luke and Leia in Star Wars if you ask me. And we all know how THAT turned out...
Is your ship definitely Massie? If so, I'll add you to the list of Milots (mechanic/pilot shippers) that I've got on The Massie Thread - located under the Fan Fiction link.
It'll be great to have you on board...there are too many Capsie shippers around here for my liking...
*cough* nimue *cough*
