Hey there, I have a question to you clever Sunshine people
I found a photo of all the crew members, the one where they're all looking up at the camera, and there was a sign saying "speed limit 29,000kmh"
This set me off, as most things do, wondering about the distance/speed/time of the journey.
I've probably missed something, but Im hoping one of you can assist me.
Distance to the sun is 93,000,000 miles Speed I assume they travelled is 18,000mph (29k kmh)
Works out at 432,000 miles per day At the start of the film it seems they've been travelling for 16 months, which is 487 days if google doesnt lie.
By then, they would have done 210,000,000 miles, unless I've missed something.
Im probably picking at straws but I was just interested :)

The acceleration need some time. Considering the fact the enigine at the end of the living quarters section is very small compared to the huge boosters on the payload (which make strong acceleration) I assume they need very long to pick up this speed.
Later they did a slingshot around the mercrury and perhaps around Venus so time/distance cannot be calculated like this.

My guess is that 29,000kmh is their max speed. Like TheHunter said, it probably took them a while to accelerate to it, hence taking the picture to celebrate when they did.

Yeah good points. I'd considered the accelleration but hadn't thought it'd take that long, but I don't know anything about it so there you go Thanks guys
