(This sort of falls under "suspense," doesn't it...? And it certainly had its share of high-tech gadgets!)
I'm just buzzed about this: the original Mission: Impossible Season One is finally-- FINALLY-- out on DVD, and I've been wallowing in it all week. The Lalo Schifrin theme-- not the mushed-up, mashed-down, hip-hop techno remixes that have headed up Mr. Cruise's last two M:I big-screen ego exercises (man, that guy really does manage to put an "I" in "team," doesn't he--?)-- sounds FANTASTIC. Picture quality is very clean. Shortage of extras-- as in "none"-- but that's what "Mission: Impossible: The Complete Dossier" is for, right...?
Tight writing, cool music, teamwork, suspense, the pidgin signage of a thousand tiny island nations, cars the size of Mars, and Rollin Hand, the Man of a Thousand Faces (Martin Landau again, in full yeah-panther-man! mode): what's not to love?
Doin' the happy camper dance, yep!

I must second Mission Impossible (even with Barbara Bain pretending to be the hot chick).

Babs as a "hot chick" is a bit cruel but true and funny. The "hot chick" was really Linda George's character in later seasons. Remember her?
Anyone recall that "moon based" sci-fi Barbara and hubby were in a few years after MI tv?

Most certainly. That would be the Space: 1999 thread.

I like the earlier seasons, especially Season One, where we got to see Dan Briggs (Steven Hill) instead of Peter Graves' Jim Phelps. Briggs always has this grim determination about him-- you're never exactly sure that things won't go terribly wrong. And, yeah, Babs takes a bit of ribbing on this end, too-- I was gonna lead off with "Wait-- Barbara Bain was a chick?" --but I love her and Martin Landau. Watching the episodes now-- just noting in conjunction with "Sunshine"-- I think of Troy Garity every time big Peter Lupus is on-screen as Willy Armitage. Very nice-looking guy, that Lupus fellow!
