I finally got to rent movies again this past weekend, and I rented both Versus and A Scanner Darkly. I'm pretty sure both movies have been mentioned here in the past, I know for certain A Scanner Darkly was.
Anyway!
So last night I watched Versus, and I loved it! Even though the plot was cheesy and there were odd moments and complete lack of names (argh!!) and things like that, I still thought it was cool. Mostly my reasons for liking this movie were 1) the green-shirted crazy-ass gangster (are the terms yakuza and gangster interchangeable or can one be a gangster but not yakuza/vice versa? that's one thing I never understood...) and his bespectaced partner; and 2) the katanas and general swordfighting. Plus I just love Japan, for example if this film were in English I probably wouldn't like it as much, haha.
And I justed finished watching A Scanner Darkly half an hour ago and it was so cool! The ending was depressing (I won't say more ) but it was really funny before it got out of control. I liked Freck and Barris, they added most of the awesome amusing parts. (The hammer vs. rock part = awesome!! Not to mention the car ride and subsequent tow truck ride ) It was great. Personally I don't enjoy political movies so the end made it a little flat for me, but you couldn't have it any other way. ^^ I'm interested in reading some Philip K D(i)ck stuff now since many of his "works-to-film" have had great ideas driving them. Also, the graphic-novel look made it even more trippy at times, so weird. Anyone know if it was done by hand or with a filter? I can't imagine doing that by hand, haha.
Hahaha, I shall stop rambling now.
Ahaha, upon inspection, the Naughty-Word-Catcher strikes again.
