Cillian is such an amazing actor. When he's on the screen, my attention is immediately drawn to him. I remember wanting to see '28 Days Later' when it was released on the cinemas, but I never got a chance. I'd seen bits of stuff about him, but the first real time I got to see him in action was Batman Begins. I was hooked by him. And I've never looked back. Hehe. '28 Days Later' is awesome, but I think my favourite performance of his is Disco Pigs. I really want to see 'Love Song', but no one else wants to go with me to see it and I'd get lost in London, on my own. The nakedness needed to be highlighted. Good job, Amanda. Hehe.

I'm going to see Love Song on my own, aroreiel! I am fully prepared to get hopelessly lost and have to beg for directions from the natives. I'm going to be there for the final performances--February 16th, and then the very last one on February 17th. I can't wait! You should go--I'm sure it's worth it! It was worth it to go to Toronto by myself for TIFF and The Wind That Shakes the Barley! You forget all about the standing in the cold or being lost and you just remember the amazing parts.

I'd say go for it too. Oh by the way. I gathered up the courage. Confession time: I watched 28 Days Later hehe. I did it! And it's safe to say Jim is a great hero. Pure genious. The film the music the locations the camera stuff all compiled a ton of excellence. I remember laughing a lot during the film... I must say my least fav parts of mine were whenever someone spewed up blood. Yuck. lol. But Jim...that Jimmy boy.

No one should miss out on Love Song. I was there last weekend for the performances of January 13 and 15. After having done my best to drag, bribe, or convince anyone to come along and subsequently failing, and having never visited London before, I decided to go alone and am very glad I did.
Cillian is an amazing performer and Love Song is just another stronghold he's had on me for the past few years: he makes his Beane (as he does many of his other characters, especially his Kitten) just too real and I was blown away at how sweet, tender, funny but undeniably touching the play was and how it made me feel. I had a great time in London, even though I came home heartbroken (didn't get a picture), Love Song is a must-see for any Cillian fans out there. He deserves all the accolades, each and every one, he is getting and more.
One line captured me, which I now put in my sig below and I think I remember it correctly but if not, please forgive me and send me a PM with the correct one. I would love to get it right.

Amanda, yeah I know. Just seeing Cillian acting, right in front of me, will just completely take over all my worries. I am really useless at reading maps. I love London, but it scares me being on my own. *is a wuss*
Oh, I want to see it desperately now.

Broad hint: get a little plastic pocket compass. I mean it: I picked one up before my first trip to London, and it really came in handy! "Love Song"-- I've been ranting on this so in many places to so many people that I wish you could stop me RIGHT NOW if you've heard it all before, but-- Cillian: Brilliant. Moments where his line endings rise when they should fall (it's an accent thing), but his passion and intensity are palpable. Great performance. Rest of cast: There's a weak spot. Not to point fingers or name names, but it ain't the blonde(s). The play: Too short. Missing at least one key scene. And John Kolvenbach makes an extremely ill-advised stab at the "poetic" that comes off as not a little weird and, well, okay (speaking as someone whom Jonis Agee once advised to write less like that), icky. But that could have something to do with the "ain't a blonde," referenced above, who sometimes goes at his/her lines like (s)he's smacking 'em with a combat boot. But that's just me. I've been at my fabulously nasty job about ten years too long; I'm too cynical. So it would take a slyer dog than Mr. Kolvenbach to make me believe in the transformative power of love. Those of the rest of ya, though-- If you want a chance to see Cillian being brilliant and insane and heartbreakingly intense in person: GO, ALREADY. It ain't gonna be there forever! In fact, it ain't gonna be there two weeks less than they'd originally thought, so GET A MOVE ON. (And for those who wrenched something reading that last sentence, my insurance information is available on request.) (We're heading back, in fact--! STAGE-DOOR GROUPIES, UNITE! )

*plans on being a stage-door groupie.*
I'm pretty excited. Like... seriously I'm getting that whole nervous sick-y feeling in my stomach like I did before Toronto.
I can't decide if going to London alone is brave or stupid.

I went alone the first time. It was fine. Just use common sense: keep an eye on your surroundings, don't "broadcast" your money (remember: the number one item found by those who clean the Tube is the emptied wallet), and keep out of areas that make you uncomfortable. If that alley looks a little too dark, keep to the lighted side of the street. Then again, I found what turned out to be my two favorite eating and drinking spots by ducking down dark alleys, so take that last bit with a grain of salt! Keep your A to Z handy, and don't underestimate the power of the cheap compass. Always makes me feel better in a strange town when I know where "north" is!

I would love to go back again to see Love Song, I loved it so much, and enjoyed the city as well, surprisingly, having gone alone. No compass needed, unnecessary in my case, because if you turn me around three times I am already lost. And forget about reading a map. But even then, I got around just fine. So don't fret.
Michael McKean and Kristen Johnston had a hilariously funny but very sexy chemistry and played well against each other. I felt Neve Campbell was good as well, but some of her lines left me bewildered to say the least.
As to Beane's voice, I thought it was part of the character to have that lilting, wavering, unsure voice that he does, but, yeah, Cillian was brilliant, as always.

he was great as Jackson Rippner in Red Eye, but he gave his best acting in Breakfast On Pluto & The Wind That Shakes The Barley.

Just saw "Love Song" for the second time this trip. Over the course of four nights-- briefly!-- saw Mr. Murphy, chatted with Mr. Murphy, took photo with Mr.-- oh, hell, you know who I mean, updated Cillian's membership in the WHAT THE HELL?!? Music Club, chatted more, and... GOT A LOOOONG HANDSHAKE. And a "See you again sometime, yeah?" That's all for now. Details available on request.
Pardon me please: the Punctuator, she's buzzed-- and on Guinness-- and more buzzed, yep...!
