One of the many interesting things about this movie was what affect the Sun and space travel had on the various people. We have Cassie who mentions that ithe Sun is all she can dream about. She is perhaps overwhelmed by its power and seems sure that they will not survive being this close.
Others like Kaneda and of course Searle and Pinbacker seem to be changed as well. Searle is addicted to the Sun's power and is probably Icarus II's version of Pinbacker. Not that he would have gone crazy in the same way, but he was certainly becoming risky with his well being. Searle seems fine with staying onboard the original Icarus ship and instead of perhaps living the rest of his life on the ship or possibly being rescued later on, quickly goes to see the Sun at full power, knowing he will die.
Capa also has awe for the Sun but perhaps he is more in awe of his own power (bomb) and his potential ability to affect the Sun. In a way he is the only member to embrace the Sun (which he does at the end).
Mace, Capa and Trey are feeling the tension of the mission and I would argue that the Mace/ Capa fights probably have nothing to do with the Sun and more as an off camera event or clash of personalities. Being couped up on the ship must have its own issues and being exposed to Earth would no doubt cure these problems. Mace spends time in the 'holo' room to relax and refocus.
Meanwhile Corazon does not seem to let anything bother her because she is emersed in plant life. The Sun nor space travel have little effect on her. That is why she is so distraught at the garden's destruction, obviously because their life source is gone, but her life now has no meaning, until the end when she finds new hope, for a few seconds anyway.
Just some random thoughts I had.
