I know it sounds confusing, but bear with me here...
Last night, I was thinking about Massie (no surprises there) and I started to wonder about Capsie. Because I can be a very narrow-minded person, I don't really understand why people ship them, other than the fact that they are the most canon ship in Sunshine.
So then I got to thinking: Why do I ship Massie? Why do I ship any couple that I ship?
This really made me want to ask you guys the same question:
Why do you ship the ships you ship?
Tell us about your Sunshine ship, if you have one.
Mine goes something like this:
[glow=red,2,300]Massie[/glow] I was biased to this ship from the very first time I watched the ad on TV. It mentioned the cast of Sunshine, and I only recognized four names, two of which were Rose Byrne and Chris Evans.
Chris Evans is one of my fave actors, and I loved Rose's performance in Troy, so I decided that when I saw Sunshine, I was going to try and ship their characters, without knowing beforehand how fanon that ship might be.
There's a lot of looks shared by Mace and Cassie. Mace seems to care for her very much and be more aware of her affections for Capa than the physicist himself. During the scenes they share, Cassie and Mace say a lot more without words than any other characters in Sunshine. They're opposites, and IMO, opposites attract. Mace's jealousy of Capa's friendship with Cassie also seems to me to extend to incredulous anger - what's so great about Capa that you like him better than me? It's one of those sad, blatantly fanon, ultimately doomed ships that I can't help but be drawn to. That's why I ship it, I guess.
Plus, Chris Evans is so hot that if looks could kill, he'd be an unlicensed weapon in 47 countries. And Rose Byrne is way pretty. Someone told me I looked like her and I almost died of squee.

HOLY SHIP--!!! Why am I replying to this thread...?!? [Sorry, sorry: the opportunity for a pun reared its ugly head, and I couldn't resist--! ] *ahem* Re: Capsie. Think that sometimes (oftentimes?), for better (and/or for worse), women are drawn to guys who seem (a) distant and (b) in need of care. Not "care" as in "has trouble feeding, bathing, and dressing himself," but-- y'know-- CARE. Which leaves the balanced, capable guys within screaming distance-- Mace, say-- asking (often with good reason), "What the hell am I-- chopped liver?" And if that distant, in-need-of-care guy looks like a blue-eyed angel, too, a guy like Mace might as well change his name to "Mr. Taken-For-Granted." Sad fact of life, my friends....

I'm on the same ship with Kali... so hear, hear!
Apart from what Kali mentioned, another reason why I ship Capsie is because I'm a BIG fan of both actors, Byrne and Murphy even BEFORE the movie. So when I heard that they were going to star in a movie together, all I could think was, "Oh, please let them play lovers!" So, I couldn't help it... I like pairing two of my favorites together (and they prove to have good chemistry, might I add).

Reasons for shipping the ships we ship, eh? Oy... that's a lot of ships.. Re: Kanezon I've been a HUGE fan of Michelle since time itself... And I'm assuming everyone here knows Michelle and Hiro worked together in Royal Warriors. Even when I first watched that movie, I was thinking they both would look so good together (even though they are not "together" together...). It was until earlier this year when I know Hiro is in Sunshine too! (Cant blame me, I thought Henry Sanada and Hiroyuki Sanada is 2 different persons... >.<) Unfortunately, they are not "together" together again... *sigh* but I hardly care anyway, since the hug Michelle gave Hiro in Zero-G satisfy all my fantasies! Hopefully a director will realize their chemistry and cast them "together" together!

Oh my, here we go: Before I'd seen the film, I was a Capsie fan. Why? Cillian Murphy. Enough said. After I'd seen the film, I was a Kanezon fan. Why? Michelle and Hiro look cute together! And what MelC said, they had chemistry way back when Royal Warriors came into holy existence. And let's face it, this ship is less complicated. But after I'd seen the film and really thought about it, I became a Massie fan. (And no, you're not reading this wrong.) After my first time watching Sunshine, others kept saying that Mace was the father and I was shaking my head, "No, you're crazy, next subject." I now realize that I was only in denial. My second time watching the film confirmed everything... The scenes still haunt me. Anyways, as you can clearly see, I ship because I love 'em. Each of them are special in their own way. I'll also admit that I'm a Corvey fan for undisclosed reasons.

What I love about Kanezon is how 'meant to be' they are under the radar. First and foremost, I believe everyone can agree that Kaneda takes up the role as 'father' to the rest of the crew, being the most experienced astronaut as well as the Captain. Well, a 'father' needs a 'mother' right? CORAZON! Hello?! Mother Earth?? She's very motherly to... her plants. That's a perfect match (not Corazon/Plants, but Corazon/Kaneda)! Also, Hiro describes his character as 'calm' and 'stoic' which I think Corazon would like in a guy as she doesn't really attach to people as much as... plants. Also, in my own opinion, I think Michelle choose to be the biologist because of the scene with the Captain. Zero G is the lovechild of Kanezon, too. Seriously, no one else hugs each other after the plane flight. Think about it.

This is going to sound very odd, but after seeing it on the big screen, I was getting a real Capazon vibe, too. Oh, boy.... About Massie versus Capsie: think what I'm thinking is that the guy a gal goes for isn't always the guy she should be with. I tried to hint at that in "Sleepers," when poor Mace is left basically saying, "Buh-- buh-- but, Cass, we're made for each other. It's obvious... "...isn't it...? "... uh, right, Cass...?" ( )

I believe the one who started Tressie would be Kali in ICARUS II Journals... she's the other evil one who made us all shippers and cause our imagination to go crazy Kali... Capazon, you say? I sort of think there was a Mace/Corazon (I'm wondering should I name them Maceazon? Corace? or Marrie??!! ) there in the movie... you see everytime Corazon "tends" to Mace... in the "Warm Up" scene (refer to Sasha's fanart), in the "Fly-boy" scene, in the "Voting" scene... Even in Corazon's backstory, Chero... when you referred to Corazon as a motherly figure (Michelle did say so herself), I couldnt help but thinking is the "Hi Mom!" sign in your avvie referring to Corazon???!!!

Re: Capazon.
Don't know if it counts as a 'ship, really. Just a few moments here and there: think, most notably, of Mace's apology, when I realized that Capa's lab is right off the Oxygen Garden. Michelle has a reaction shot-- a sort of "boys will be boys" smile, and after that-- I dunno. Maybe it's that Corazon seems to be the most at-ease member of the team (when terrible things aren't happening to things that are very near and dear to her); she seems to have the most effortless connection to all the living beings on the ship, not just her plants. So I guess she seems the most effortlessly connected to Capa, who seems by far the most distant member of the team. Cassie's trying to reach him-- Cassie's a caregiver, and it shows-- but Corazon connects to the mission and its members in a more elemental, and therefore direct, way. Impersonal and very personal all at once.
Soooo-- not exactly a 'ship. But, hey, who knows...?

WOw, you guys are deep. I get what you're saying about Corazon though. She seems to have easy interaction with all the crew members, whereas there's a lot of tension between some of the others. One thing I noticed is that, as far as the 'guy-in-need-of-care' thing goes, when Mace and Capa get into another fight after the Voting scene, they beat each other up for a bit, but when they break apart, Cassie and Corazon just step over them. If Cassie's so concerned about Capa, you'd think she'd help him up or something.
I'm glad she didn't though. No offense, Capsie fans.
