Hello Sunshiners! I am wondering about the first names of the characters. I doubt this is very spoilery, but, hey, if you've got a spoiler tag why not use it. Capa's first name is Robert- he states this in the opening narration. Kaneda's first name is Akira- it says so in the shooting script. Mace... well, when Searle brings up Mace's psychological profile at the very start of the film you can actually read Mace's full name. However, by the time I figured this out the shot had cut away. The next time I saw the film I was on the look-out, but I was in a different theatre and this time the whole screen was too blurry to read. If I had to make a guess right now... ... I thought it said Mace J Grant. Has anyone had a clearer view of Mace's profile? Cassie... well we know her first name isn't Cassandra because Cassie is from her last name Cassidy. Does anyone know any other first names? Should we make some up? I think Harvey should be called Greg...

I used "Stephen" as Mace's first name in "Pod"-- but all the first names I added in "Pod" have personal and fairly tragic meaning for me, and I certainly don't intend to be calling "DIBS!" on anyone. Mace seems like a "Stephen," though: it's a nice, balanced, straightforward "guy" kind of name.
I saddled Trey with "Edward" for kind of the same reasons. A winking nod to Alex Garland: all of their monikers have sad little background stories....
Actually, the more I've been thinking about it, the more "Cassandra" has been making sense as a first name for Cassie. Would put my crabby noggin at ease over the nickname debacle, if nothing else!

Harvey seems like the type who would go by his first name, and why should Cassie be the only one who does so? If it's her first name...I haven't been keeping tabs. Having not seen the movie, of course, this is only my opinion. ^^ Also, Corazon always sounded to me like it would be her first name, but perhaps that's 'cos it doesn't sound like a traditional last name...in Spanish or otherwise. ^^

I think Mace's first name is the one he goes by. Mace is a variation of Matthew, which is generally a first name rather than a surname. Besides, I've been calling Mace 'Mace' for so long now that calling him by any other name would just be weird.
I'm pretty sure Cassie is a first name too. Don't know why, but I just get the feeling that it is.

An oldie but goldie: ... but would the people behind the mission use the first names of the Icarus II crew on the official mission patches...? Granted, with a surname like mine, you'd have to make said patches about one hundred and forty percent bigger, but still....

I was working with the same assumption as kaliszewski: if the official mission patch includes these names, they must be their surnames. I suspect Alex Garland purposely used first name sounding surnames so they wouldn't be so jarring in the dialogue. Or perhaps Alex intended the names to be a mix of surnames, first names and nick names, but when the patches were designed, the production people just assumed that they were all surnames and didn't ask for the full names...
I think Searle should have a name with a biblical connection... Joseph, maybe...

So, obviously Cassie's real name isn't Cassandra, but I was just looking up names a minute ago and went to Cassie, which says that it's a diminutive form of Cassandra, so I followed that lead and when I looked up Cassandra it says, "She Who Entangles Men."
I know the Capsie fans will get a kick out of that one. It made me lol.
