While watching the movie I saw a flicker, when I slowed it down I noticed there are hidden pictures in a few frames in the movie.
The frames are in the 50th minute into the film, while they're exploring Icarus I. Whenever a flashlight lights up the screen you see a picture of a person smiling.
They look like pictures of astronauts, I was thinking they might be the Columbia crew, but I can't find any info on it. Was it mentioned in the director's commentary?

Those hidden pictures are snippets of the Icarus I crew. You see a short movie of them dressed in a Hawaii theme shortly after the flickers. You can tell this because you can recognize the Pinbacker we saw in Kaneda's room smiling in the center.

yea saw em to it kinda spoked me a litle.. images suck and give the movie a "bad name" i wonder who's ideea was it ?

I like this "hidden frames" because they frightened me in a good way in theatre. I think they are ok although Sunshine is a a ScFi-movie and they are very untypical for this genre.
This pop-up-frames are typical for horror movies, but there they have negative contents.
In Sunshine you see in the frames smiling peoples, the crew of Icarus I. Positive pictures, which don't shock you really but let you feel the atmosphere in Icarus I in a very intensive and innovative way. I find them great.
