I have seen Sunshine a few times and after Searle takes his first dose of the Sun from that observation deck (basically right at the start of the film), Boyle flashes to a picture of the crew on the wall and in the lower right of it says "HI MOMS."
Could it be that one of the crew in the picture has more than one Mom, say from a lesbian marriage? Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against anyone, I would like everyone to be happy with whomever they want. But if this is true, it kind of makes it good, that 50 years in the future, this relationship can be more accepted. I know I probably am reading too much into that picture, probably just a message from all the crew members to thank their collective Moms, but it isnt a bad thought to have. This is an intelligent scifi movie and I wouldnt be surprised if Boyle and Garland just layered in this little ideas, but then again I might have too much time to think of such things.

You know, you could have a point. They may be someone in there with lesbian parents... or maybe his/her father re-married and now he/she has his/her biological mom and a step-mother. Or maybe he was adopted but met his/her biological mom. A lot of possibilities, really.

Wow, I never thought of that. I just figured the sign meant for all of the Moms of the crew members. Great thinking though!
