Okay if this was mentioned earlier tell me to shut up and point me in the right direction. Please don't read if haven't seen the fillm yet. I was lead to the site by a discussion on IMDB.com and couldn't believe what I saw. On the site itself, in the video descriptions, it reads "The death of such and such a character". WTF?!?! It not only shows a clip of the death of the characters but it goes ahead and puts them in bold letters in the desccription. On the bloody front page! Someone needs to be fired at Fox. And then pushed down a flight of stairs.

I love you, IIC. No seriously. We're marrying tomorrow, dammit!! (Don't say "No" this time, okay? LOL)
I was going to make this EXACT THREAD - title and all!!! WTF?? Fox Searchlight has definitely hit an all-time low for me today. They even posted that crap on their very public YouTube Channel. It's sick. It's like they are struggling to make this movie "popular" in America by giving away too much. They just totally ripped vital sections of the film out of its amazing context for the whole world to see!!
Bad move, FS. Bad move. I don't know how else to put this lightly, but I am never going to obsess this much on another FS movie again. The marketing is just too much for me to handle as a fan who enjoys the element of surprise. Yeah, you remember that, FS?? I was so grateful to have seen Sunshine back in March when not much spoilers were flying around. Now, it seems as if that gesture was necessary for me to do in order not to be overwhelmed as a webmistress for a Sunshine fansite. What a shame.... and I thought the meaningless extended trailer on Apple was bad enough.

It almost looks like a hack-- as though someone at Fox who was mad about something (about, say-- and this is going WAAAAAY out on a limb-- Danny Boyle's recent comments about Eli Roth and "Hostel") were saying, "You want DEATH, kiddies? Okay: you got it!" Honestly, this is the most befuddlingly stupid piece of internet marketing I have EVER seen. Does it look like they're trying to sink the film's business? YES, IT DOES. Almost seems as if something like this could be legally actionable. Could you bring an entertainment lawsuit for inept, ineffectual, and/or damaging promotion...?

I believe so but I'll have to check my books to make sure. If Danny and gang think this marketing "plan" made them lose money then I'm sure they can file a suit of sorts.

I was about to say: What does Danny think about all this? I completely agree with you, Kali! The site looks hacked! It's ridiculous. I was also reading some of the comments on one of the videos and its stupid ranting about nothing. I'll put an example of the crap in a spoiler tag because its not worth looking at for too long. Here's two quotes (NO LIE!): the simple fact that you said anyone should look at the world of warcraft forums makes you such a f*g. has there ever been a movie like this before?? im pretty sure not and why, because its a new idea. im sorry you wish you were Neo and you lived in the matrix were you played WOW all the time and never got laid. f*g.
Oh LOOK! Someone replied...
you started to make a point and then you killed your credibility by throwing the word f*g around like its still cool to sound like an moronic bigot. i love how 90 percent of online discussions turn into little babies throwing rocks at each other.

This is what I sent to a Fox representative: Hi this is Brittany again from Sunshine Fan Online. I would like to know the marketing logic behind releasing clips of each character's death in Sunshine on the official page as well as on the YouTube Channel. I'm asking this because I really want to find a reason to keep liking Fox Searchlight. There has been much negative feedback on this topic.
Thanks in advance, Brittany
p.s. If you were the wrong person to ask this, please forward this email to someone who was responsible for what I mentioned above. I was going to add "and you also make puppies cry" but that might have been too over-the-top.

Echoing some of the sentiments/theories above, it looks like a really bad hack-job to me...(I work in IT security and have seen something happen like this before).
Or perhaps an FS web developer with an axe to grind?
No company in ANY industry would shoot itself in the foot this badly intentionally...well, unless it's Enron.
