So the other night I was on my way to a Drive-In theater.. and it just so happens that out of the 229 Drive-In theaters in California in 1979.. there is only about 10 left... and closest one to my house is about 40 minutes away.. 30 if i take the toll road.. So I took the toll-road.. and I never take the toll-road.. cause im poor and it costs like $6 each way for a 10 minute drive.. but it was the middle of the night (around 10:30-11 pm) and i didn't feel like dealing with traffic on the main freeway... now on this particular night the toll-road was oddly quiet, I felt like I was the only person on the road, there were no lights anywhere and all I could see in front of me was the darkness of the mountains.. the road started to curve around and there was absolutely no one around me.. so, naturally, I started to speed up without evevn realizing it. And all the sudden I passed a cop and his radar gun when I going 100 miles per hour!!!... but I slammed on the brakes when I saw him and he only got me going 91 mph... the speed limit is 65 (which I feel is completely out-dated)....
So I watched him turn on his lights and get behind me.. I was in the left lane and there was for some weird reason a huge shoulder to the left of me.. so I pulled over to the LEFT shoulder and stopped.. the cop pulled over on the Right shoulder and started yelling at me on the intercom to always pull over to the right.. So now im embarassed because I pulled over on the wrong side, and I'm nervous because I HAVE NEVER BEEN PULLED OVER BEFORE .... So i get to the right shoulder and the officer comes up to the passenger window and asks me for my liscense and registration.... and it just makes complete sense that earlier in that same day I lost my wallet at a gas station.. and on top of that I don't have lisecense plates on my car.. I bought my car a year ago and I never put them on.. So I go to pull out my regristration.. and I have two.. two sets of stickers and two regristrations lol..
So the officer takes both registrations and smiles at me and says..
"what's this? You have two registrations?"
"Yes Sir.. They sent me two on accident."
"And where are your liscense plates?"
"Well you see.. I didn't have plates when I bought the car.. and they didn't send them to me for like 7 months... They sent me the registration and the stickers.. but no plates.. So I went back to the dealership and told them I never got plates, and they sent them to me with another set of registration and stickers."
"Uh huh.. So where are your plates?"
Then for no logical reason I can think of I felt like I needed to lie..
"They're at my parents house."
I was implying that I did not live with my parents and my liscense plates were sent there. Also implying that it was too far out of my way to pick them up in a reasonable amount of time.
"And where do they live?"
"In Lake Forest"
Which is about 10 minutes south of where we were.
"And where are you coming from tonight?"
starting with the lies again...
"Ummm... From near Ladera Ranch area.. somewhere.."
About 20 minutes south of our location. 10 minutes further south than my house.. practically the same city.
The officer was about to say something, but I interupted..
"Yeah I know.. I should have just put them on right away.. I've just been busy.. But that's no excuse.. I just havn't done it, I don't know why."
All the while I have this weird, quirky smile on my face because I know I'm lieing, but at the same time I want him to think I'm earnest... And I really havn't been busy.. the liscense plates are sitting on my desk next to my computer... Im also hoping that he doesn't figure out that I said the liscense plates were sent to my house with the registration and stickers ..and that I have the stickers.. but not the plates... when I told him I havn't had time to grab them from my parents house.
"Ok.. do you have your ID?"
"Well.. actually I lost my wallet today.. I'm sorry I don't..."
"What's your birthdate?"
So I tell him my birthdate..
"And your address?"
Now I have to lie again to keep my story consistent.. I told him I didn't live in Lake Forest..
"Well my mailing address is in Lake Forest at my parents house".. Then I ramble off the address..
"So where is Your address?"
"Oh.. uhhh.. I'm just staying with friends right now.. wherever I can.. for the past few weeks.."
"Oh Ok... do you know your drivers liscense number bychance?"
I didn't know my drivers liscense number.. but I had to make him think I was trying at least.. So I told him some random number..
"Alright" he says, "gimme a couple minutes to run this through, I'll be right back.. don't go anywhere". And he walks back to his patrol car.
Then he came back and told me that I had given him the wrong drivers liscense number.. He was a really nice guy and told me he just gave me fix-it tickets for the missing plates and liscense. Unfortuneately I also got a speeding ticket for going 91 -.- .. He gave me a few pointers, then we chatted for a few minutes about random stuff, he told me to take care of myself and that was it
