..introduce myself. I am a toxicologist based in Arlington, VA who works for the Federal govt, as do most of the people in my neck of the woods, directly or indirectly. My original training was in physics ( I was in the high-energy physics group in grad school), but I left the subject after Congress broke my heart in 1993 and got my doc in tox instead. I have always been interested in sci-fi and science in general, particularly in medicine, astrophysics, planetary science, and particle physics (try to make sense of that combo!). I am a fan of Star Trek (the original and TNG); have read Asimov, Clarke, Simak, Niven, and others since I was 10; and think of Carl Sagan as a demi-god . I am also a tremendous fan of Cillian Murphy, who HAS to be one of the hottest guys on the planet (DROOL!!). I was INCREDIBLY psyched when I heard that he was playing a physicist of all things--beauty and the ultimate in brains, all in one package (fictional though that package may be). YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMY! Kudos to you, Amanda, for an amazing fan site for Cillian!

Physics, huh? Wow! I'm a sci-fi freak myself. I'm not sure why... probably because science fiction is similiar to western (which is another favorite genre of mine). Cillian is one of the best actors of his time.

Physicist in Sunshine, psychologist in Batman Begins... he gets all the awesome intellectual jobs. It's unfair to everyone else, don't you think? I went to watch Sunshine before I was aware Cillian was playing in it. The moment he appeared, I pretty much sat there thinking, "Please let him be a survivor, please let him be a survivor"... because I wanted to see more of him. Have you read any Baxter? I could imagine you enjoying his novels. They'll never win a prize for character development, but they juggle some very interesting physical concepts around on huge scales. And: welcome! Great to have you here.

Thanks everybody! Nope, haven't read Baxter, but I have read some books by Robert Forward, who is also a physicist. He wrote 'Dragon's Egg', which will completely blow your mind!
