Hey, you know how if you live in the states you spend six months of your life waiting for traffic lights to change? Here in Australia, it's only two weeks!

Hey, guess what? I'm going to torture you all with a bit of quality ALIENS trivia!
Al Matthews, who plays Sergeant Apone, was the first black Marine ever to be promoted to the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam war.
When Jeanette Goldstein auditioned for the role of Vasquez, she thought the movie was about illegal immigrants. She rocked up with makeup and waist length hair while everyone else was in military fatigues!
A joke about the above occurence was acutally put into the ALIENS script:
Hudson: Yeah, somebody said 'aliens' and she thought they said 'illegal aliens' and signed up!
The actors playing the marines all did two weeks training with the SAS and also had to read Starship Troopers as part of their roles.
More will follow...no one can stop the ALIENS obsession...muahahahahahahahaaa!

Hey, guess what? I'm going to torture you all with a bit of quality ALIENS trivia! More will follow...no one can stop the ALIENS obsession...muahahahahahahahaaa! Here's my ALIENS trivia, since I am a firearm collector/enthusiast: ~ The M-41A Pulse Rifles were made from WWII USGI M1A1 Thompson SMGs, Franchi SPAS-12 Riot Shotguns, and Remington 870s. The actual magazine capacity was supposed to be 100, but the LED counters read 95 for the mags in the film -- because its a standard USCM practice to leave 5 rounds out of the magazine to prevent jamming. ~ The M-41A Pulse Rifle is supposed to use caseless ammunition, but when they were fired in the movie, spent shells are seen flying everywhere... ~ The M56 Smartguns were made from WWII German MG-42 machine guns (one in it's "real" form can be seen in Saving Private Ryan when they capture the German soldier at the radar station) and Steadicam mounts. The firing mechanisms are made from Honda motorcycle handles. "I guess he don't like the cornbread either." ;D ________________________________ ADDENDUM One last semi-relevant piece. Check out my avatar. It's the cover of a CD (Bunker Gate Seven) by a German aggrotech/industrial project called Wumpscut (my favorite band). If you've seen the director's cut of Aliens, you'll recognize the Wumpscut logo as the Weyland-Yutani logo. As for Weyland-Yutani, the "d" was missing from the Weyland part of the name in Alien. "Weylan-Yutani" can be seen on one of the beer cans in Alien if you look close enough. One VERY ODD piece of Aliens trivia My wife is a Navy brat, and her dad (and thus, the whole family) was stationed in England during the 80s. They auditioned American girls from her school on base to play Rebecca "Newt" Jordan. My wife tried out to play her, and remembers having to practice screaming a lot. She made the semi-final audition, but was told she was "too tall" for Sigourney Weaver to have carried her. She also remembers asking her mom if it was okay to read the script because it had "bad words" in it.

That's awesome! Did you know they actually based the M-56 Smart Gun battle vests on Steadicam harnesses?
Kinda like a camera that shoots you in the head...

LY coming your way for your righteous worship of Aliens and for starting this trivia tangent. If you haven't already picked up a copy, I'd suggest checking out Lee Brimmicombe-Wood's "Aliens: Colonial Marines Technical Manual" for some very very specific diagrams and descriptions of Smartgun tactics. Especially cool is the "supressing fire from behind cover" and "prone firing" configuration illustrations. The M56 design is so logical I am surprised that some defense company hasn't built one yet -- not using an MG42 chassis of course. Those things were notorious in WWII for overheating barrels, but they became the fundamental design that the US copied when building the M60. "BAD CALL? THESE PEOPLE ARE DEAD, BURKE!" ;D BG7

Oh...I would love that book...SO.FREAKING.MUCH!
Where did you get it? Could I buy a copy off of Amazon?
Btw...
"These things aren't ants, estupido!"
(Hudson and Vasquez are my OTP. Ain't it great? I think I'm the only person in the world that ships them. Guess I just got sick of all those people wondering why Drake and Vas weren't an item. Hehe.)
Oh, whoops, trivia.
Ummmm...
Ooooh! Did you know that the actress playing Vasquez in the part of the scene in the air ducts during which Vas shoots an alien in the head with a pistol was not actually Jeanette Goldstein? That scene was filmed with Gale Anne Hird, because she was the only crew member that knew how to fire a pistol at close range!

I know you guys probably already know this one, but I'll throw it in 'cause it makes me chuckle:
From the "This Guy Has It in For Me" department:
James Cameron "killed" Jenette Goldstein in two more movies: "Terminator 2" and the why-am-I-not-watching-"A Night to Remember"-instead? re-telling of "Titanic." Uh, thanks, Jim--!
massiefan: Abebooks.com has a couple copies of the Technical Manual, but they're PRICEY. Alibris has one: also pricey. A few at Half.com. The cheapest one I'm seeing is on eBay in AUSTRALIA!!! POUNCE NOW--!!!
