I only saw Sanada in The Promise. Well, he is funny (in some ways) and he really impressed me. I'm from Vietnam. So can anyone tell me how popular/famous he is in Japan?

I've heard him described ( by a Japanese lady who lives in the States now) as the TOM CRUISE of Japan.
I'd say he's a rather big star. And, has been for many years.
Well, he's more than a star because he is VERY talented. Not only his acting skills, maritial arts, but singing/dancing etc. he's a terrific stage actor.

Whoa! He can sing and dance???!!!! I doubt I'll be seeing any of that in Sunshine (trying really hard to imagine Kaneda dancing...) but hopefully in future projects??? By dancing, do you mean japanese dance or dancing in general??

Sanada-san was once a singer when he was young and he also made many concerts at Japan in his twenties. Then he put his concentration on film.

Thank you, I have just watched RINGU. Wow, I am 20 but after watching the last TV scene, I wasn't able to sleep because when I closed my eyes, the scence appeared...But I'm happy to discover how handsome and attractive Sanada was/is.

Starry, Hiro sings and dances as in musical stage productions and not just in his twenties.
The comedy musical Okepi (The Orchestra Pit) was produced around 2000 (he was about 40 then).
