thought i'd say hello before the big rush of fans hit when the film comes out.
i'd been following sunshine for a bit when i heard about a new british science fiction film being made. after all, that doesnt happen too often, does it?
i know one or two people who work in the film industry, and one of them was a friend who was working on pre viz for this one.
long story short, we bumped into danny boyle and he was very nice, extremely pleasant and very open about the story, ideas, references, visuals, showed us the sets being mocked up and the pre viz for the vfx.
very memorable time.
this was back when they did pre in soho, and shortly after they moved down to three mills for production.
an aspect i loved was that danny was eager for it to be based on existing technological concepts, and so is presented as 'near-future' technology - advanced but not so it goes into the realms of fantastic future science fiction, as star trek often does.
as a follower of both the us and soviet/russian space programs i was so happy to see him take researching these seriously and using them in his production. i liked the production design and the graphics were really cool. i hope we get to see some of the amazing work done in pre in accompanying books/merchandise.
i shared studio space with pre on bi2 for a while and that wasnt nearly quite as interesting lol
as i work in 3dcg animation/visuals/fx/previz/whatnot i always find vfx fascinating, and along with it being an interesting sci-fi story, have been looking forward to this film for some time.
