5th place? Hm, Sunshine deserves more in my opinion. Anyway, the effects are clearly better than in "Harry Potter" or "Transformers". Sunshine catched the force of the sun and transmitted it to the audience in a very impressive way. The other movies are fractional just CGI-battles without any comparable content!
But the top 5 in other categories are also a bit...strange.

Yeah, it's funny considering that Empire Online seemed keen over promoting Sunshine. The film didn't even make Scenes of the Year! The ending scene with Capa was by far one of the best cinematic experiences I've ever had. Period.

Sunshine deserves 1st place for many reasons, one of which is that Danny Boyle knew exactly where, when and how to use CG effects in order to convey the story. And he didn't just use CG; he used that good old mixture of set pieces and improvisation, with CG. Of course, the premise of the movie is heavily reliant on CGI but even so it isn't overdone at all. That coupled with excellent and powerfully evocative music just puts Sunshine in a league of its own.

Yeah, I have never seen such amazing and realistic CGI before. The best CGI is when you don't notice them, that was the case in Sunshine. They didn't dominate the movie but visualize the sun incredible realistic and fascinating. On of the rarely "low budget" movies with great effects!
