I'll put money on it being R in the USA, and 15 in the UK. Sounds good to me.

Yah I think 14A or R would be proper classification in N.America for this film just by the mix of things happening. So I hope there aren't too many "creatures" in this film b/c I will (no matter what) go and see it! haha.

In France, the ratings aren't very strict, for example War Of the Worlds, like Gia noticed, haven't had any ratings, maybe Sunshine will be 16. For example, just one movie had a 18 years old rating, it was Saw 3. I don't think Sunshine will be as terrific as Saw3, hum, i hope because, if it's like Saw 3, i think I cannot go to see it But as you say, brittany, the "monster" seems to be very scary :/ (hope my english doesn't terrify you ;D, tell me if you see mistakes! )

No worries, Clarisse. It's nice to see people from around the world gather together like this. It's so wonderful.

Yeah, no worries, Clarisse! Chero, I edited that screencap post I made. I feel bad for not using the spoiler feature sooner... ah well.

There are rumours around saying that Sunshine has been rated by the MPAA and given an 'R'. I've found out that it's not even been screen for the MPAA yet. So still hasn't been rated... no matter what you might read elsewhere

Should we be concerned that it hasn't screened yet for a rating? I hope they don't need to make any last minute changes to get the rating they want.

Doesn't it mean that the film is completely done when it has a rating tagged onto it?

Nope, nothing to be concerned about at all I'm not sure how it works elsewhere, but here in the UK we often see films advertised which still haven't been rated yet. So, it's still 3(ish) months until the film comes out, there's plenty of time...

Personally, I'm hoping for an "R" rating in the U.S. It'll mean lots of goodies. xD

Why we're probably looking at an "R" (by she who gets too much of a kick out of reading the ratings boxes on movie trailers):
Scenes of intense violence and peril.
Just guesses:
1. Whatever happened to the Icarus I will begin to happen to the Icarus II-- and whatever it was wasn't very pretty. Which Danny Boyle and his editor and foley crew will show us with a whole bag of tricks: speed-shots, nervewracking quick cuts, "jump" sounds, the lot. I'm betting they're going to play on fear of the dark, too (something David Twohy & company did brilliantly in "Pitch Black" and "Below")-- and isolated sounds in the dark. Terrified, labored breathing-- stuff like that.
2. Our heroes are, by default, in an extremely hostile environment. Any time I think "potential for being burned alive" and "how about a little explosive decompression to brighten one's day?" with regard to the same film, I tend to think "R."
3. Not to mention the evil Pinbac-- DANG-- I mean, whatever creature(s) may be lying in wait. Add a little blistering solar power to your average mutilating alien monstrosity, and it's time to mosey on past PG-13.
So I'm thinking we're looking at a "clean" R. That is, no sex, no sex-related nudity (SORRY!), but plenty of peril-- and char-related gore. Stick a fork in 'em: they're DONE.

A visitor to the site told me that Sunshine is now on MPAA's site. Search for Sunshine and it's about the 3rd one down.
An 'R'.
