Howdy. I only just saw Sunshine, umm, this past Tuesday I guess. Wow, seems longer since I've since watched it about 6 or 7 times. So yeah, I've become extraordinarily fond of the film, more so than perhaps any film I've ever seen. I'm really happy to see this movie has had a similar impact on a lot of people it seems.
I find it really interesting how a movie like Sunshine, which has no franchise potential, nor is it geeked-out, or full over thought, flamboyant sci-fi elements has inspired a community of loyal fans. It really demonstrates just how strong the story, characters and visuals are. I love this kind of sci-fi, well I love all kinds, but this kind is SO rare. The realistic kind that embraces the actual, real beauty of outer space. Unlike other films like this though, I hold Sunshine above and beyond because while the visuals are mind-numbingly beautiful the characters and drama are equally compelling. Such a rare thing that is. Usually a movie short changes one for the other, just look at 2001, it didn't even particularly try to have developed or interesting characters.
Well anyway, glad to be here.

Yeah I love Mace. I was so surprised by Chris Evan performance, not that I didn't doubt his ability, I was just completely unaware of it. He's done such lightweight stuff in the past compared to this.
A lot of movie heroes are rather self-centered and often the main reason for their heroic deeds is a very self-serving one, which is fine but it's refreshing to see a character who is truly heroic and not acting at all out of personal interests. It's easy to do the right thing when your daughter's been kidnapped while you were at work, it's hard when you're millions of miles away from home and no one will ever appreciate just how much you sacrificed.

I talked to another fan about this and she recommends seeing "London", another film with Chris Evans. Apparently his role in that isn't "lightweight." London was released back in 2005, too. Here's the IMDb link: www.imdb.com/title/tt0449061/

It seems that a lot of people who like this kind of ScFi watch Sunshine now on DVD and not in cinema. Another proof for Fox bad advertising. 2001 and Sunshine are complely different movies altough they are both ScFi. So it is hard to compare them and I would not do it. They are both a piece of art, in different ways, with an deeper philosophical (hope its written correct) message. Though all in all, 2001 is maybe a little bit greater masterpice so far. But I like Sunshine more, because it is a more visual movie in opposition to 2001. Almost forgotten: Welcome justo

Welcome aboard, justo. I'm so glad the world isn't full of idiots who appreciate movies like Little Man, Super Bad (a movie adequately reviewed by its own title!) Good Luck Chuck, et al Sunshine kicks Hollywood's "lowest common denominator", "movie -making by numbers" into a thingyed hat. I swear, just as some people don't "get" '2001:A Space Odyssey' even after 30 years, people will still be talking about 'Sunshine' decades from now. It really is a classic; a gem of a movie. LOL I like the way "thingyed" has been edited to "thingyed" lmao
