Hi, Miriax-- You know how how Capa and the rest of the gang from the Icarus II appear in that Christmas picture wearing Santa hats? Where someone's holding a sign that says "Hi, Moms!"? Your screencap is from the equivalent group photo of the Icarus I crew. It's hanging on the refrigerator or on one of the stainless-steel storage lockers on board the Icarus I. I think it's Searle who wipes a swath of dust off of it: in the picture, Captain Pinbacker and his crew are wearing Hawaiian shirts and waving "Hi!" to the camera. Why it's always a dicey decision to use subliminally inserted shots in a film: sometimes, as in The Exorcist, you can impact your audience on a nearly primeval level-- people panic, people become physically upset or even ill. But you run the risk of those same people simply scratching their heads and saying, "Wha--? What the hell was that?" Confusion versus eerieness. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't.
