Like Serenity, for example? The chicks kick just as much butt as the guys in that movie. But I guess that don't really classify as fantasy...
...that's one of the reasons I've always preferred sci-fi to fantasy - because girls actually do significant, masculine stuff in sci-fi movies. They're pilots, or marines, or mechanics, or whatever.

I've got a weird one here...Conan the Barbarian. Sure, it was early-80's B-grade cheese with some laughable effects and ham-fisted dialogue. I like the movie for three reasons.
1. James Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom -- PURE EVIL. Especially the scene where he cuts the young Conan's mother's head off while she's holding her son's hand.
2. "Magic" is not a Harry-Potter-LOTR-fireball-throwing-power-fest in this movie (or in Robert Howard's original Conan stories). It actually takes work and sacrifice, and is a path followed by the darkest of souls.
3. Basil Poledouris' fantastic score.

Another great fantasy film is Braveheart. Wonderful, wonderful movie but absolutely horrible history-wise. Ergo, I view it as a "D&D" type medieval fantasy film/Scottish folklore-based fairy tale.

I love Braveheart! Especially Stephen's character! ('V' or 'ph'? ^^; ) He was badass.

I like Lord of the Rings, i read the three books two times and "The Hobbit" approximately five times.
Though what I really love is ScFi.

...that's one of the reasons I've always preferred sci-fi to fantasy - because girls actually do significant, masculine stuff in sci-fi movies. They're pilots, or marines, or mechanics, or whatever. That's why it's called Science 'Fiction' just kidding Massiefan One of the coolest girls ever has to be Charlize Theron from Aeonflux.. I love that movie... but Ultraviolet which came out shortly after Aeonflux was terrible.. probably one of the worst sci-fi movies ever made.. the graphics were so disappointing. I love LOTR!!! I read all the books 4 times each (including the Hobbit), before the movies came out They're so great! I never put LOTR and Harry Potter in the same category, they are just completely different. I would never compare those two stories, one was made for kids, and the other has a complex and deep story line developing new races, religions, and belief systems for all the characters involved. Great stuff. I'm not saying Harry Potter is bad, I think they're great.. I'm just saying LOTR and Harry Potter are in different Categories.. A good example are video stores.. LOTR is in the action or Sci-Fi section and Harry Potter is in the Family section. If anyone here is a fan of fantasy books, I suggest looking into a series called the Chronicles of Thomas Covenent written by Stephen R. Donaldson. The first book is called Lord Fouls Bane. They are just incredible books, really amazing I think.. The first book takes a little while to get into, but if you can wait it out they are seriously some of the best fantasy books ever made.

Heh...I live and breathe fantasy/sci-fi/horror. Let's see... 1. "The Lord of the Rings" - Greatest. Book/Movie. EVER!!! I actually discovered this story by accident back in high school...I'm so glad I did. 2. "Mirrormask" - Neil Gaiman kicks ass... Now, for him to truly rock, all he has to do is adapt Neverwhere for the movies, and The Sandman comic book as a miniseries, and get Peter Jackson to direct them (that's just my personal opinion, btw). 3. "The Dark Crystal" - I haven't seen that in forever...that was one of my all time favorite movies during elementary and junior high school... If I saw it again now, I'd probably fall in love with it all over again... 4. "The Neverending Story" - Pretty creepy the first time I saw it, but now it's one of my favorites... I still watch it from time to time... Can't seem to find the book, though... 5. "The Phantom Tollbooth" - I don't know if anyone else has ever heard of this story...with my tendencies to ramble, it would take way too long to try and explain it, but it was a cartoon (in the Tom and Jerry style...kind of...) based on an old book...can't remember the author's name right now... 6. Any movie from Hayao Miyazaki...although if I absolutely had to choose, it would be "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind."
