That's weak Capa... WEAK! I thought you were smarter than that To abandon belief in man-made deities and stand on one's own -- recognizing that our current life is probably the only one we have to work with -- takes a great deal of strength. (It's strength that I, as an agnostic, don't have.) And it's not strength I'm worried about .

And it's not strength I'm worried about . What are you worried about, then?

I disagree with one part. I believe Capa is an agnostic in this film. The reason is because he is in between all the extremes:
Trey and Harvey worship self (ie suicide and Harvey's cowardly breakdown where he has no regard for humanity or God)
Kaneda and Searle worship the sun; God. (ie voluntarily give themselves up to God for humanity. They sacrifice themselves to the Sun in order for the Sun to have mercy on humanity, much like ancient Egyptian and Aztec cultures)
Mace worships science and technology. (ie his utilitarian approach to conflict. His death is strictly for technology and science. He could care less WHAT was keeping the world warm [doesn't have to be anything that CREATED us to him, it just has to continue to keep us warm).
Capa's character, in comparison to these characters, it an agnostic. When he dies, that moment where time slows for him, it is no longer about humanity. I don't think he was glad to save humanity in that moment. I think he was glad to reignite our God.
We ARE becoming an increasingly atheistic society and God, like the sun in the movie, is dimming. And without God, all we will have is our technology and darkness. Basically, our cities will still stand. But they will have no purpose without God. And without God, without the sun, there is no us and they are JUST buildings.
Just a thought.

I disagree with one part. I believe Capa is an agnostic in this film. I'd think so too, but I'm going off his official backstory. Kaneda and Searle worship the sun; God. (ie voluntarily give themselves up to God for humanity. They sacrifice themselves to the Sun in order for the Sun to have mercy on humanity, much like ancient Egyptian and Aztec cultures) I also see the sun as symbolic of God/dess in the movie, so view Searle and Kaneda's reverence for it in spiritual terms. I haven't thought of the Egyptian, Aztec(!!), and other mythological parallels, though. Aztec idea that the sun feeds on human blood. They fit perfectly!! LY for you. ;D Capa's character, in comparison to these characters, is an agnostic. When he dies, that moment where time slows for him, it is no longer about humanity. I don't think he was glad to save humanity in that moment. I think he was glad to reignite our God. I could bask for hours in that scene! To me, it is a deeply spiritual union of human consciousness with the cosmos. A return to who we really are. I don't think it was even about reigniting the sun for him at that point. It was pure bliss and awe at the universe. He knew the math, he knew the physics, he had studied it all his life, but these were nothing in the face of the real thing.
