SUNSHINE will be the closing film at the los angeles film festival on july 1, 2007. www.lafilmfest.com/because it is one of the key feature films (TALK TO ME will open the festival) it is not like the other films in competition (where the public can buy tickets and see the films). so it's expensive to be able to attend this viewing. (it's part of a package price, but you can attend the opening and closing gala's). the website has the numbers to call for information and tickets. (goes on sale may 17). it's quite an honor to be selected as an opening or closing film, AND, generally, they DO try and get the director, as well as some of the actors to attend. it seems like a pretty good strategy, to use this venue to launch the u.s. viewing of the film, and get some BUZZ going, prior to release! having had the good fortune to be in london in april (i live in l.a.) i was able to see the film, and IF the reason they delayed the U.S. release was for consideration for academy award season.......i think the choices seem brilliant. this movie is SOOOO worth the wait! thanks so much to misty, who runs hiro's fansite www.hiroyukisanada.com. and to emily, who found the info!

I'm really annoyed with their website. Am I the only one who can't find much of anything useful on it? There are no prices and I can't even browse the site by the titles of the films that're going to be there. Am I just dense or what?

amanda i think it's too early for them to have all the details worked out on which films will be at which venues. (most are in the westwood village area of l.a.). i'm sure more info will be available soon. (festival starts june 21). i believe, (from what i hear) the 'package' includes opening and closing films (plus galas and/or Q and A's) as well as 15 passes to films being shown (of your choice). it's $350.00 for the package. (per person) i THINK most individual films ticket prices are very reasonable. (12-15 range?). sunshine will show at the wadsworth theatre on wilshire, just outside the village. www.indiewire.com/laff/ the link emily provided for misty. www.hollywood-elsewhere.com/ a small mention about sunshine and talk to me 'bookending' the event. if anyone lives in l.a. i do know that they look for volunteers to work these events. i have a friend who does this, and she has worked the last 3 academy awards shows, sometimes as a 'seat filler' and last year, worked backstage, so she got to see lots of FUN stuff, and of course, all the winners and presenters. the website has info if anyone is interested in working the event.

Just got this e-mail: Unfortunately, Cillian won't be [at the premiere at the LAFF] as he's still filming "The Edge of Love" overseas. I spoke to Fox Searchlight's publicity department & they said that Danny Boyle & Troy Garrity would be there.

Well, even if he's not there (and really, what's his excuse? He's here-- well, kinda-here [meaning "Chicago" if not "The Festering Northern Swamp Known as the Twin Cities"] filming the next Batman movie--!)... ... I'm gonna be there. As in "at the Sunshine premiere at the L.A. Film Festival." Short hop, out an' back. Burning heat of Hell-Ay, here I come...! Yep--!

Well, I'm enjoying my semi-usual pre-trip bout of ALLERGIES (which is actually a good sign, since every time I've been a sniffling, hacking mess on a trip, I've managed to run into Cillian Murphy), so--
I guess I'll be trading the humidity and pollen for a day of BLISTERING HEAT AND SMOG. Here in Minnesota, we broil in the high temps. Out west, it's like being hung in a food dehydrator. That California sun, she's BRUTAL on this third-shift skin--!
And then there's the debate: to drink or not to drink at the after-party...? My head, my allergy pills, and my last gram of common sense are saying "NOT." Could make for a fun stumble back to the hotel-- and a very interesting early-morning flight home. Hmmm....

hee hee (your glare comment). well, then l.a. SUNSHINE will be PERFECT for you! funny, i just came back to l.a. from ann arbor, MI, and by comparison....the LACK of humidity here (generally) is so great. (don't get me wrong... love A2). are you very familiar with l.a.? cuz i don't know how long you will be here, but if you get a chance, be sure and visit santa monica and malibu! (10 degrees cooler by the beach areas). if you go to malibu country mart (cool shops) you're sure to have a good celebrity sighting. (of course, you'll have some great ones at the after party!) but that way you can go home with your SUNSHINE movie and party adventure AND a (sunshine) tan! fun in the sun in MANY ways! pssst.... kali...GREAT scores on the auction! i wanted only ONE thing. (and WON it, thankfully) but i got hiro's comm unit, ray bans, and the 2 JUZU wrist prayer beads. what do you do with your stuff? i wear one of the juzu beads sometimes (and gave away the other) but i still have his sunglasses and comm unit in the tupperware they sent it in!!! well, HAVE FUN and look forward to your report! about the event, AND the FABULOUS weather. tee hee.

... unless Northwest cancels my flight. They're having "pilot issues" right now. Seems someone with minimal math skills and maximal money skills "miscalculated" how many hours each of the company's pilots could legally (and safely) fly per month-- so they've been canceling end-of-month flights. Oh, well.... IN THE MEANTIME, though, in happier news-- to answer your question: I'M WEARING MY BESTEST PIECE OF "STUFF" RIGHT NOW!!! (No, not Capa's "sweaty" t-shirt. Sheesh, ya pervs--! )Capa's Oris watch came back from the cleaners today. It's grand! It's like wearing the Lincoln Memorial on your wrist: it's that bloody heavy--! WHOOF! And, 'cause I've got wrists like telephone poles, I didn't have to have the band adjusted. (Makes wearing Cassie's watch difficult, though: I'm a mite less dainty than Miss Byrne.) No wonder Cillian looked so tired on the "Sunshine" set: this thing could stretch your arm...!
