And of course the stupid review at the Cillian forum isn't serious, it just frustrates me that people are so ridiculous without even trying. She even replied that she's perfectly within her rights to admire Cillian's nipples if she wants. Uhm---?! I wonder how many 'reviews' of Sunshine written by men will talk about Rose's or Michelle's nipples? I suspect: zero. If there were, I wonder if she'd think that was an acceptable way to critique an actress's work.

That is exactly what I said in my latest response to her. Ugh. At least now I have a blog against sexism...

And another: " EDGE-of-the-seat thriller Sunshine looks set to become one of the great science fiction movies in contemporary cinema."

Kind of an average review here (3 stars), some spoilers but they are warned about in bold. "Make no mistake though: purely as a space adventure action/thriller Sunshine works reasonably well even though it treads familiar ground. The special effects and set designs are extremely well done, and to truly appreciate them one should watch this film on the big screen." www.scifimoviepage.com/sunshine.html

I am confused by this: (I'll put it in a spoiler thingy in case anyone is refusing to read reviews... but then why are you in this thread?!) "Acting is competent and despite a slow start the film nicely picks up the pace to make for an exciting mid-section. The film is however often flawed by an over-reliance on techno babble that will be off-putting to non-SF fans." 1. The 'slow start' is actually setting up the characters and their relationships and moves along considerably quicker than the beginning of Alien. Which is slow. Nothing happens in Alien for something like 45 minutes! 2. There is one instance of what could be considered 'techno babble' except it's nothing like the things which come out in Star Trek. It's not a techno-babble film... Weird. I don't understand people. Someone told me in an email that he thought that it reminded him of Lost in Space and Mission to Mars because of really minor in significant things - almost like 'they walked out of one room, through a door and into another room, then picked up a piece of paper. They did EXACTLY that in Mission to Mars!!!' I really don't understand people.

I'm sure it's going to be a bumpy ride Gia, there's no film where everyone loved it, not one! As long as the majority do then hopefully it will be a success I cant wait to see it on a really big screen where all good sci-fi should be seen!

It's true. The vast majority of people love it. And, to be honest, even the few people who don't seem to get it have all said that it's a film worth seeing in the cinema... So really, it's quite a remarkable reaction. A while back I recommended 'Fight Club' to a friend of mine. I think it's a brilliant film and was amazed that he hadn't seen it. I let him borrow my copy. A week later I asked how he liked it and he said, 'I turned it off after about a half hour. It was one of the worst films I'd ever seen.' I couldn't understand.

Another reviewer literally wowed: March 13, 2007 Shining Light on Sunshine
I was lucky enough to see Danny Boyle's Sunshine last night -- and it might just be the most visually stunning piece of cinema I've ever seen. Plus I got to see it at Fox's screening room with top-notch digital projection. Wow, I sat with my mouth open most of the time. Don't know about my overall judgments on the film yet, need to let the story settle in for a few days (and it's hard for me to take Cillian Murphy too seriously). I think I was expecting some low-key British sci-fi with spaceship interiors, but man the effects and design of Sunshine are incredible. It feels huge but also idiosyncratic, and you can see the kind of energy he brought to 28 Days Later. There are a bunch of Sunshine trailers on various websites and if you go to You Tube you can see the US and UK versions. I quite like this US version.
And I'll leave you with that while I get packed for Hong Kong Filmart! blogs.indiewire.com/indiewendy/archives/012990.html

I can't help but think-- keeping in mind the debacle behind the US release date-- that maybe Boyle & Co. shot themselves in the foot by having those early preview screenings of "Sunshine." I've been reading in interviews that Danny admits that some of the feedback at the preview screenings was fairly hideous-- due to the fact that the effects weren't finished and viewers were finding it too hard to look past the [EFFECT HERE] tags on the screen. I'm wondering if Fox US isn't basing its release hesitancy on those screenings. Sad but true: you know what they say about first impressions-- and if your film is supposed to be a "WOW" in the visuals department, and the visuals just aren't there when previewers see it: oh, no....

Gia have a read of the Sunshine review in this months Sight & Sound, its probably the most highbrow film magazine in the UK, it gives the entire film away (probably not a good idea to post it ) but it also said some really good things about Sunshine!
