But Cassie's eyes are as pilot-perfect-- and as darkly lovely-- as ever. Capa is finishing his scan of her left one when Icarus says: Samples analyzed, Capa. Test results available."Okay. Thank you, Icarus." He turns to the monitor on the desk.... ... and her results are normal. In fact, Cassie is healthly throughout. She watches the monitor with Capa and slightly smiles. "I could have told you that, but I know you'd rather see numbers." She looks to her hands, clasping them on her lap. "Hmmm, let's see: I had fatigue, slight headaches, snacked every so often and felt moody on the job. If I didn't know any better, I would think I'm pregnant." After a pause, she looks at Capa to reassure him. "But I'm not. I'm just overworking myself... I'm feeling better actually." She gets off the stool, preparing to leave. Wanting to change the subject, she continues: "I think it's a great idea to brighten the lights around here. You always have things up your sleeve to make others happy, especially now that we are going home. I'm proud of you, Capa."

You always have things up your sleeve to make others happy, especially now that we are going home. I'm proud of you, Capa." "I'm just glad you're okay." Capa smiles, embraces her. Only when he feels himself relaxing against her does he realize how tense he was. "Thank you for indulging me-- and my love of numbers." He keeps his arm around her waist as he walks her to the door. "As for the lights-- we all deserve to stay healthy on the way home. But we still have to see if Mace says such a change is feasible. I wouldn't want to endanger the ship-- or any of us-- bringing it about. "As for you-- here's where I should say something doctor-y--" -- and his smile is half-shy, half-serious-- "-- aspirin as needed for your head. Take your vitamins, and drink plenty of water. Make sure you utilize your rest and your exercise periods. "And if that's not enough...." He turns her around, gently kneads the muscles of her shoulders. "I took the liberty of reading up on massage techniques. Great for headache therapy." His voice drops to a murmur as he adds, his lips nearly touching her ear: "And for other things, too-- or so they say...." ***** It's dark. It's dark, and he hears a whistling sound. Like wind. Cold, isolated, and lonely.... Dead ahead. He's in the long stretch of corridor that led to the payload. And he sees-- oddly without shock, even more oddly with no lack of oxygen or pressurization-- that the airlock door is wide open. He walks to it and looks out. He can see the grid lights on the back of the shield. He can feel the velvet blackness of space against his eyes. "Huh," he says. His voice is soundless in the vacuum. He grasps the brace-bar near the doorframe, leans out, and pulls the heavy white door closed. He throws the locking bolts. Looks down. There's something on the deck. He bends and picks it up. It's a comm link. " Icarus, whose comm link is this?" Wake-up call, Trey, Icarus replies. "No, Icarus: whose comm link is--" But his body and Icarus must be in cahoots. Trey, still asking, sits up in bed. "Dang it." Awake, he looks at his hand, still feeling the heft of the link, the neck cord. But his hand, of course, is empty. He shakes his head, swings his feet to the floor, and gets up. Odd dream for the odd guy out, he thinks, without rancor. Only fitting for the ship's nightshifter.... ***** But he can't quite shake it with a quip. The dream is still with Trey when he checks in on the flight deck. Mace is sitting in the midst of a private light show: Icarus has filled the air around the mechanic with an elaborate schematic of the ship's interior. She's speaking as Trey enters-- Areas of highest solar consumption, at specified magnification, numbered in descending order and highlighted in yellow, Mace. -- so the navigator passes quietly by on his way to Navs. The whistling sound, the wind from his dream: he can still hear it in his head....

Mace frowns thoughtfully at the results - while they don't surprise him, he notes the information down beside the rest of his data. Punching some numbers into the flight console closest to him, the mechanic presents Icarus with another task.
"Thanks, Icarus. Please record numerical data from most recent entry via Deck Console 7 and run simulation of lighting enhancement by 24.75% minus the Garden, Med Center and Comms Center. Retain current indicators for both electrical systems and areas of highest solar consumption; please monitor throughout simulation."

Monitoring.... .... as numbers indicating energy consumption cascade through the air beside their respective areas of the schematic. Trey, from Navs, looks over with interest. They're on-course, so he can spare the attention. He crosses to the flight deck comms station still watching. He smiles wryly-- Okay, Icarus: re-run simulation, augmenting indicators by fifteen percent, whilst chewing gum and clucking like a chicken.-- but, more seriously, he thinks: Sounds like a hell of a project. Bet Mace could use a hand....***** "As for you-- here's where I should say something doctor-y--" -- and his smile is half-shy, half-serious-- "-- aspirin as needed for your head. Corrie should be stopping by before dinner, but it's more of an 'on-her-own-time' sort of thing." In lieu of checking his watch, Capa reaches reflexively for his comm link-- It's not there. "Damn--" He looks in mild befuddlement at the front of his shirt; he blinks around a slight frown as he looks up again, meets Cassie's eyes. "I must have left it in the shower, in the changing room...." ***** In the Oxygen Garden, Corazon finishes her report on the soil analysis. She goes back to Harvey, notes with satisfaction the progress he's making with the seedlings. "Looks good, Harv," she says. "I'm going to go see what Capa wants. If you finish with those before I get back, feel free to start on the second tray. Same tags, same row...."

Mace watches intently as Icarus runs the simulation. In his peripheral vision, the mechanic spies Trey also eyeing the hovering holographic. He says nothing to indicate his awareness of the navigator's interest, however - his focus thoroughly on the task at hand.

"No, that's okay." Capa smiles for her. He feels now, distinctly, the absence of the comm link's cord, the lack of weight against the back of his neck. He feels, too, something he hasn't felt in weeks: his incision is itching. He scratches it absently, through his shirt. "I'll pick it up later, after I-- Hi, Corrie."
"Capa." Corazon, walking up, looks politely from Capa to Cassie. "Not interrupting anything, am I...?"

"Oh no, it's fine, Corazon."
Cassie smiles at her. "I was just leaving. I'll see you later, Capa."
After a kiss on his cheek, she heads back to the Flight Deck to check on Icarus.

"I'm going to go see what Capa wants. If you finish with those before I get back, feel free to start on the second tray. Same tags, same row...." Harvey is nearly finished with the first tray when Corazon approaches him. He is clearly having a good time. He waves her off when she leaves as he is too involved in his work to respond verbally. ************ Kaneda steps out of his quarters and sees Cassie making her way back to the flight deck. "Cassie, have you seen Mace?"

"Thanks, Icarus." Mace says as the simulation finishes. He flips through his completed notes, prioritising tasks and duties and calculating the time needed to do each one. The mechanic lets out a loud exhalation and starts entering some of this new data into the flight computer console beside him.

Kaneda steps out of his quarters and sees Cassie making her way back to the flight deck. "Cassie, have you seen Mace?" Cassie stops at the sound of the captain and turns to face him. "No, I haven't. He was in the engine room but he could be in the Flight Deck now. I'm on my way there actually."

"Oh no, it's fine, Corazon." Cassie smiles at her. "I was just leaving. I'll see you later, Capa." After a kiss on his cheek, she heads back to the Flight Deck to check on Icarus. "Later, angel," Capa murmurs. He watches her walk off, still scratching absently at his chest. "Capa," Corazon says, after a moment of watching him. He doesn't respond; he seems lost in thought. She notes where he's scratching. It reminds her of Kaneda's injury; it reminds her of traumas best healed and forgotten. "Here, now." She catches his wrist gently. "Stop that." Capa starts at the contact. "What--? Corazon?" "You'll irritate it." She nods toward his chest. "Is your incision bothering you?" "Umm--" Capa hesitates. He's still not entirely here. He looks at Corazon evenly, his hand dropping to his side. "No. It's fine. I was just, uh--" "You wanted to see me." "Yes--" His eyes stray again, down the hall where Cassie went. Corazon prompts quietly: "Is she alright?" "Yes." "How about you?" Capa frowns slightly. "I'm fine, Corrie." "So--" She looks at him expectantly, though patiently. Capa mellows his expression. "It's about Harvey," he says, ushering her into Medical. "Kaneda and I were wondering if you could help us talk to him...."

"Tell him to link me if he's there. I'll check the engine room." Kaneda changes direction and begins walking. He waves his hand slightly. "Thanks, Cassie."

"Tell him to link me if he's there. I'll check the engine room." Kaneda changes direction and begins walking. He waves his hand slightly. "Thanks, Cassie." "No problem, Captain." Cassie continues her way to the Flight Deck and spots Mace in his chair. She pats his shoulder. "Hey, Kaneda wants to speak with you. You need to link him. He's on his way to the engine room right now." She sits down in her pilot chair as she speaks.
